The Pool Room

"THE POOL ROOM," an experimental short story where the point of view is a pool room and a murder unfolds through the messages on an answering machine, was the first of my stories to be published.

"The short stories of nine talented new mystery writers have been chosen for inclusion in the first volume of the LITTLE SISTERS anthology... Among these stories is Patricia L. Morin's THE POOL ROOM."

Inspiration, a Journal for the Mind, Body and Spirit is a holistic magazine published in Kauai, Hawaii. It has recently merged with another magazine called United World. Inspiration started with a dream by the main publisher, Char Ravelo. I co-published the journal with the help of art designer Shelby Kushma. Before I moved to Oahu, I edited the first five issues: May-June 2003, to January-February 2004. The magazine was designed to serve as a vehicle for holistic healers, and health and environmental professionals throughout Hawaii to share their knowledge. We believed in cultivating an understanding of the body, mind, and spirit in an effort to encourage the exploration of inner peace and balance.

Psychological Thriller

The End Game

When her stockbroker husband's shady dealings bring death threats, psychologist Laura Massey has to abandon her therapy practice.  Bodyguards posted in her home offer a false sense of comfort; only when Jack is killed  and Laura is kidnapped does she realize that she was always the intended  target.

Psychological Mystery

Hidden Ties: Fatal Flow: Eliza Mae’s abusive husband is killed in a car accident. Shortly after, a detective reveals that her uncle, who was thought to have drowned ten years ago, has been unearthed by a bulldozer near a building site. Eliza Mae senses that there is a connection between the two deaths, but no one believes her-not even her own mother who believes the detective is a figment of Eliza Mae’s active imagination. With the help of the ex-homicide detective next door, who is interested in being Eliza Mae’s lover, Eliza Mae uncovers a ruthless plot risking her own life and that of doubting mother.

Mystery Montage, a collection of short stories, each representing a different mystery genre.

“Who killed Horatio T. Adams?” is a humorous tale about a gambling man who is killed on a late-night walk down a Hawaiian Blvd., and his food-loving wife, who is held for ransom by a food-loving bookie looking to have debts repaid.

“Peanut Butter and Gin” is a cozy set in Oakland, California. Grandma Silverstein and her grandson, Jacob, try to discover how his coach really died after leaving her house, and right after her brother has left for a long neighborhood walk.

“Maasai Mara Murder” is a cultural mystery set in the Maasai Mara of Kenya, Africa. The tribal leader of a small village in the deepest part of the Mara suspects that it was not really a lioness that killed the cattle guardian.

“Detective Milton’s Paradise Found” is a hard-boiled detective mystery about a female detective fired from the police force because she did not solve the murder of the right-hand man of her town’s supervisor.

“Breakthrough to Murder” is the psychological account of a young woman who fights through a disabling depression brought on by the death of her fiancé. As she breaks through the levels of her darkness, she unfolds the clues to his murder.

“The Pool Room” is an experimental short story where the POV is a pool room, and an old murder unfolds through the messages on an answering machine. See Shannon Road Press above.

More to come…
